Phil Hellmuth Returns as Previous
Champion

Phill Hellmuth returns to set the stage for the 2nd
annual National Heads-Up Poker Championship,
which will be once again aired on NBC and CNBC. Going a
different route, this tournament focuses on the more
intimate heads-up format in which players square off
one-on-one in No-Limit Texas Hold'em. The structure of
the event is much like March Madness with brackets and
seedings.
This is an invitation-only event for 64 of the top poker
players in the world going head-to-head until an
eventual champion is crowned. Actually, make that 63 and
one lucky online satellite winner. Last year, it was
Phil Hellmuth - the outspoken 9-time WSOP bracelet
winner - taking it all. It will be held at the new
Caesar's Palace poker room in Las Vegas in March and
will air on the NBC networks in April.
Last year I took a look at this event on television but
was disappointed that they only focused on one or two
matches between the most interesting players to the
network rather than actually show all the action. That
and I think that the World Poker Tour was on the
other channel. This year, I'll set up TiVo for both.
