With the Main Event at this year’s WSOP attracting 5,619
players it was sure to make some millionaires. Actually,
the entire final table was guaranteed at least $1
million! We watched as Mike Matusow suffered that
horrible beat to take 9th at the final table. He
returned to win the WSOP Tournament of Champions and
take home another $1 million and earn 10th place in the
overall rankings for the year.
The native Australian Joseph Hachem took first in 2005
by virtue of his $7.5 million win at the WSOP Main
Event. Second place, won by Steven Dannenmann, earned
over $4.2 million and locked up the same place in the
overall standings.
Other notable accomplishments on the list include
back-to-back Monte Carlo Millions tournament winner Phil
Ivey taking 3rd place for the year. Tuan Lee took 4th
place from winning the World Poker Tour’s Five-Star
World Poker Classic event in April despite an otherwise
miserable year. Let’s take a look at the top 10
tournament money winners of 2005:
1. Joseph Hachem: $7.61 million
2. Steve Dannenmann: $4.35 million
3. Phil Ivey: $3.33 million
4. Tuan Lee: $2.85 million
5. John “Tex Barch”: $2.52 million
6. Michael Mizrachi: $2.47 million
7. Michael Gracz: $2.29 million
8. Nick Schulman: $2.24 million
9. Rehne Pedersen: $2.11 million
10. Mike Matusow: $2 million
