Super System 2 by Doyle Brunson and other contributors

Written almost 3 decades after the original, Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson hopes that this updated versions serves to be what it was to poker players over the past generation: the "Bible of Poker". Aptly named, it is one of the few poker books that addresses strategy in all the major variations of poker.

Enlisting poker superstars like Daniel Negreanu (Triple Draw section) and his son Todd Brunson (Stud section), Super System 2 is largely a collection of poker all-stars giving their best advice on games they know best. Unfortunately, beginners might not find as much value in some of the advanced concepts, and if players are looking for a strictly Hold'em book they may be disappointed.

There are two somewhat lengthy chapters on both Limit and No-Limit Hold'em. The No-Limit section was written by Doyle himself and is, in my opinion, the bread and butter of this volume. It's also the 10-time WSOP bracelet winner's favorite high-stakes game. Doyle explains the logic behind his characteristic super-aggressive playing style and gives updates on his original tutorial.

Perhaps as interesting as the actual strategy is the collection of new sections for the sequel. I found Doyle's autobiography fascinating, and it's a nice treat to read the legend's thoughts on his beginnings in the poker world. There is also a section on both online poker and the World Poker Tour, addressing modern updates to poker and how it has affect the game on the whole.

Overall, this is a book that no true poker player should be without if only for its reference value. If you play mixed games, this is a must. If you're looking for a new angle on Hold'em from a master of the game, pick it up. Personally, I find it a lot more nostalgia value in the collector's edition that I got for playing at Doyle's Room.
